I'm

Hey there!

About

I read somewhere that when you pair a unique empathy with a unique gifting you find your calling and that we create the art that we need.  That's the best way I can explain how I stumbled into my purpose without even realizing what was happening.

I never planned to become a photographer.  I was gifted a camera when my oldest was born. I was so proud of him and wanted everyone to know and see him. I posted pictures of him on social media like it was my job.  Folks began to notice and I started taking pictures for others.  I couldn’t get over the fact that someone was willing to pay me to do this thing that I really loved and enjoyed. The more families I had the opportunity to photograph, the more devoted I became to it.

Looking through my lens and seeing you show up so bravely and allowing yourself to be seen is incredibly healing for me.  It tells me that you know that something about you and your life is worth remembering.  And of course all of it is worth remembering!!  YOU are worth remembering!  You matter so much---to your family, to your community.  I see you!  I stand in awe!  You inspire me and empower me to show up and be seen.

I hid in the shadows of our house when I was a little girl for my own safety.  I hid behind achievement and perfectionism as I got older so that people wouldn’t see what was actually going on.  In college, all those things I’d been hiding from found me and I became very depressed and ended up needing to leave school.  All I saw myself as after that was a failure who wasn’t worth being seen.  I went on to marry a minister and I for sure kept myself hidden from others then.  If anyone found out who I really was then not only would they think bad about me but they’d think bad about him too.

After you’ve spent so much time hiding in the shadows, you start to forget what the light feels like.  You start to forget who you are.

I've spent a lot of my life hiding.

Here’s the part I don’t want you to know, but I think it’s important to tell you so you can understand me and why I feel so passionate about my work.

I've spent a lot of my life hiding.

I'm a family + newborn photographer based in Hernando, MS just outside of Memphis, TN.

In motherhood, I've wondered if anybody sees all that I do to care for my family.  Is there anyone who understands the weight of everything I'm trying to hold together? Is it wrong to want someone to validate that the sacrificing of myself for my family has any value?

When I look through my lens I see the beauty you bring to your family.  I see how much you are needed and loved, how what you are doing every seemingly unremarkable day is so important. You are creating a childhood, a life.  I see the difference you are making to everyone around you.  This makes me feel incredibly validated in my own motherhood and life.

Thank you for being here.  Thank you for showing up for your family and for yourself.  I consider it sacred work to reflect the beauty of your offering into the world as a testament that your love existed because I believe that when we feel seen we can show up better for others.  That's empowering!  And empowered people change the world!

Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos to order, confusion to clarity. It can turn a meal into a feast, a house into a home, a stranger into a friend. Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today and creates a vision for tomorrow.

REad on ...

I am married to my high school sweetheart.  We have three kids.  I love adventuring in the great outdoors with them.  My favorite place I've ever been is Valley of Fire State Park in the Mojave Desert.  If I weren't a photographer, I'd be a counselor.  That's what I studied in college.

I'm ALL ABOUT

That's WHAT SHE SAID:

Jessica is our family's favorite photographer.  Every time we use her I am amazed at how STUNNING the photographs turn out to be. Family photos are the most stressful thing EVER and she keeps it fun and everyone calm.  She never misses the tiny details such as a piece of paper peeking out of a pocket or a collar that needs to be flipped.  Love working with Jessica and would always recommend her!

That's WHAT SHE SAID:

We worked with Jessica to photograph both of our newborns! She was so kind and easy to work with. We didn’t have a vision of what we wanted coming in but she got some of the most beautiful pictures of our kids!! She was patient when they needed to be fed and when they got fussy. It was all seamless and is a precious memory for us! She also took pictures of our baby girl when she turned one. She chose the Memphis Botanical Gardens and it was literally the most perfect, easiest process!!
